E-Mail Scam |
Dear
Netlink Customer, |
E-Mail Scam - "Letter of
Assistance"![]()
There are a variety
of "Letter of Assistance" E-mail Scams circulating around the Internet. However,
the story line is fairly similar in each instance. The scam usually goes
something like this: A person, usually saying he or she is from a third world
country, sends you an e-mail saying he/she has access to a very large amount of
money and for some strange, fateful reason has selected you to assist him/her in
getting the funds out of his/her country. You are to provide the person with
personal bank account information for the purpose of receiving transfer of these
funds to your account for a temporary holding period. The individual promises to
split the proceeds with you after the transfer of funds occurs. The "letter"
normally utilizes incorrect grammar and spelling to further the notion that the
sender is indeed from a far-off, impoverished country. Do NOT fall for this
E-MAIL SCAM by replying to it. Simply delete it.

Short Tutorial - Finding Words
Within "Long" Web Pages![]()
If you are looking
for a word or a phrase located in a long web page, but can't seem to locate it
within the seemingly insurmountable number of paragraphs and sentences, Internet
Explorer(tm) and Netscape(tm) provide tools to assist you.
To find a
word or phrase within a web page when using an Internet Explorer web
browser, find the page you want to search and then click your cursor arrow on
the "Edit" menu located at the top of your browser window. Now simply select
"Find on this Page" from the resulting drop down menu (You can accomplish the
same result by pressing the "CTRL" and "F" keys on your keyboard.) A "Find"
dialog box will appear which allows you to type in a specific word or phrase.
There are three search options for the word and two for the direction of search.
On the left side of the dialog box are the phrases "Match whole word
only" and "Match Case." If you leave both boxes unchecked and hit the "Find
Next" button, IE will find the next selection that contains what you typed. If
you check the "Match whole word only" box, it will find only the word you typed.
If you check "Match Case," it will make your search case sensitive. So if you
type in "John" it will find "John" but not "john." After you've decided on the
type of search you want to do, select your direction of search, usually "Down,"
and click the "Find Next" button. Explorer will look for that word on the page.
If the search is successful, you'll be taken to the first occurrence of your
word on the web page. Click "Find Next" again to go to its next occurrence and
as many times as necessary to complete your search.
In Netscape
Navigator, go to the "Edit" menu at the top of your browser window and drop
down to "Find in Page" (Ctrl + F). The "Find" dialog box will appear. Type in
your word or phrase, select a direction of search and click the "Find Next"
button. If you want your search to be case sensitive, check the box next to
"Match case." Click "Find Next" until your search is complete or until Netscape
runs out of matches for your word. That's it.
